Joint meeting aganist Covid-19 between Mission of China to AU and AUC

On April 2nd, Ambassador Liu Yuxi, Head of Mission of China to AU and H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey, Deputy chairperson of AUC co-chaired the joint meeting aganist Covid-19 at AU Headquarters. Commissioner of Social Affairs H.E. Ms. Amira Elfadil, Deputy Director of the Africa CDC Dr. Ahmed Ogwell, Heads of relevant departments of AUC and Mr. Lin Zhiyong, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Mission attended the meeting.

Ambassador Liu highly appreciated the important coordinating role played by the AU and Africa CDC in leading the African continent to fight disease. China will bear in heart all the support that AU and African countries have given to China during the difficult time of its fight against the epidemic. Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping put forward a series of important proposals at the G20 Extraordinary Summit on strengthening international cooperation and stabilizing the world economy. China will continue to fight side by side with Africa to defeat the disease and mitigate the impact of epidemic on African economy.

H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey thanked China for the many batches of aid to AU and African countries since the outbreak of the epidemic, and commended President Xi Jinping for his Chinese plan of global fight against epidemic put forward during the G20 Summit. "A single spark can start a prairie fire", Mr. Quartey believed that with the efforts of every citizen in all countries in Africa and the extensive support of the international community including China, Africa can eventually defeat the epidemic. H.E. Ms. Amira Elfadil spoke highly of China's encouraging results in the fight against Covid-19, and hoped that China could continue to increase its support for Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on the development of the African epidemic situation as well as the respective anti-epidemic measures of China and Africa.
